Resumo: I upgraded my old HP desktop. HP p6516f. It came with the Athlon II X4 630 2.8mhz 95watt CPU. The mainboard supports up to the AMD Phenom II X4 980 3.7mhz 125watt CPU. I located a nice used AMD 980 CPU with a new fan/heat sink. I changed the power supply to a 550watt from (250w).
Resumo: I was thinking of going back to AMD from Intel. At the time I purchased this, Sandy Bridge was the dominant processor. Although it still had the Phenom's number, I am glad I saved the $100-$200 for the minor performance drop i received.
Prós: 3 years and going strong. Handles everything I throw at it from gaming to encoding to crunching (F@H type stuff).
Cons: Stock heatsink was so loud I ordered a Liquid cooler, but that just allows me to OC and this thing can get high in the GHZ range so that is a plus as well.
Resumo: BadMammaJamma chip for the money. Have no plans of upgrading for a while.
Prós: I have had this chip installed on my 990FX mobo for over a year now and it has been the best chip I've owned yet. Solid performance, handles anythign I throw at it. Which isn't much other than media streaming, netflix, pandora, itunes and games such as BF3 and MW4. Runs around 40degrees C when ac...
Resumo: Upgraded to the FX 8320 because the price was right. Honestly can't tell the difference in games but haven't owned the FX long enough to give a better comparison.
Prós: Quad-core 3.7Ghz unlocked team Red.
Cons: 125 W TDP. This little guy gets hot. I used a Hyper 212 Evo and it helped negate this.
Resumo: would buy it again,i even bought another 3 months ago and it is running great.since i'm not a gamer it does just fine and i think it would perform well playing games with it
Prós: it does everything i wanted and more.it replaced a 3.1ghz dual core and right after installation i notice a marked improvement in speed.
